The Pursuit for The Perfect Game is a photographic exploration of Tenpin Bowling as both sport and subculture by Bradford-based artist Joshua Hart.
Shot on medium format and 35mm film, the project captures the atmosphere, complexity, and community of bowling through a personal and documentary lens. As a passionate bowler himself, Joshua’s images reflect deep familiarity and affection for the game, revealing not only its physical precision but also its emotional resonance. Through a series of intimate portraits and expressive interior shots, this work aims to challenge public perceptions of bowling and celebrate its diversity, history, and hidden rituals. The photographs invite the viewer into a space of competition, camaraderie, and escape, where ordinary moments become extraordinary in the frame. Drawing from his own lived experience, The Pursuit for The Perfect Game is both homage and invitation, a visual love letter to a sport that offers community, purpose, and joy.
About The Artist
Joshua Hart is a Bradford-based documentary photographer working predominantly with analogue film to explore people, place, and emotion. Originally from Leicester, Joshua found photography as a calling, eventually pursuing a degree at Leeds Arts University. His practice centres on themes of identity, memory, and community, using traditional photography as both a form of storytelling and personal reflection. Joshua’s work often takes shape through long-term engagement with his subjects and surroundings, with a strong focus on authenticity and connection. He views photography as a form of therapy, requiring care, attention, and patience. These qualities also underpin his creative philosophy. With a particular interest in overlooked environments and everyday rituals, Joshua creates work that is visually grounded yet emotionally resonant. The Pursuit for The Perfect Game, developed for the OUR TURN Festival, brings together his love for photography and tenpin bowling in a heartfelt tribute to shared spaces and human connection.
