Cal-ling and Galavanting
Karen Harman
Digital print
This image of Mexborough evokes that warm Northern nostalgia. 1980s, every Saturday shopping in Keighley with my gran. Woolworths, Sunwin House, Fletchers, the market and gateau at Wilds. Strong matriarchs gossiping (cal-ling) in the streets, headscarves covering curls, handbags hanging on wrists. Tongue in cheek, we called going out ‘galavanting’.
