All my work is based on an empirical experience of the world expressed through drawing, and then transcribed into oil paintings, oil pastels and occasionally other media. This work is the culmination of three obsessions: Baile Hill, an earthwork in York, the city I was born in; "The Gloomy Day", one of The Seasons series by Pieter Brueghel the Elder; and the subtle and refined coloration of Bradford, where I have lived, in Saltaire, for 37 years.
